German Shepherd Survives For 5 Weeks Alone After Falling Off Fishing Boat Into Pacific Ocean

Dogs become a part of your family after you take them in. So if anything bad happens to them, it’s natural to feel heartbroken. Fisherman Nick Hayworth also had to face such a devastating moment after his dog Luna, a 1-year-old German Shepherd, fell off a fishing boat into the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Despite the predicament she was in, he believed deep in his heart that she would survive the ordeal.

Luna was a very powerful swimmer and that he was 90 percent sure she’d head for shore. Staff form the Naval Base in Colorado searched for a long time, but all in vain. Even after two more days of searching, Luna was nowhere to be found. Because she wasn’t found in such a long time, they gave up hope and presumed her to be dead at sea. But they had no idea that they were in for a huge surprise.

After falling overboard, Luna had swam to an island two miles off the coast. The island was used by the US Army for target practice! Incredibly, she survived on the island for 5 weeks. She foraged on dead seagulls, rats and fish. After weeks, the navy was able to find her an reunite her with her owner. She had become a little skinny after the horrifying ordeal, but she was still in one piece and she hadn’t lost any of that amazing spirit!
